ABOUT DR. JOYCE ADELEKE

Dr. Joyce Adeleke got her first pair of glasses at age ten to correct her nearsightedness. The sudden vividness and clarity of the world before her were mind-blowing. Now, she has the joy of impacting the lives of many while watching her youngest patients grow up with a better focus of their own as well.

During Dr. Adeleke’s undergrad at North Carolina State University, she shadowed her own optometrist for several months. She saw how closely and thoughtfully the optometrist worked with her patients and was encouraged by the healthy work-life balance she saw was possible in this healthcare field. It was then that Dr. Adeleke realized optometry was the perfect place for her to put her warm personality and passion for improving the lives of others, and entrepreneurial drive to work.

She proceeded to earn her optometry degree at Pennsylvania College of Optometry, now known as Salus University. She opened her practice after her successful residency at Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC, honoring the two generations of female small business owners that had come before her.

Dr. Adeleke is continuously improving and expanding the services she offers her patients. Most recently, she delved into the world of dry eye disease after watching the suffering of her patients increase over time and become particularly unresponsive to the typical eye drop treatment methods. She learned that individuals with this particular disease tend to hop from one doctor’s office to the next, looking for relief, and rarely find it. She wanted to do more to create lasting relief for her patients and knew she had to take matters into her own hands. After passionately researching what she could do, she sought additional education and now offers enhanced comfort and modern, cutting-edge treatment to those with dry eye disease.

In addition to her enthusiasm for dry eye therapy, Dr. Adeleke takes particular pride in providing specialty contact lenses that aren’t available off the shelf, such as gas permeable, hybrid, ortho-k, and scleral lenses.

Dr. Adeleke loves every minute of her work and caring for patients. When she’s off the clock, though, you’ll find her spending time with her family and indulging in her favorite hobby at home — interior design.
